Father Edward Phelan 1939 – 2025

Father Edward Phelan passed away on July 18, at the age of 85.

Father Phelan was born in Ireland and ordained for the Diocese of Mobile/Birmingham, AL, now the Archdiocese of Mobile on June 7, 1963. He was incardinated into the Archdiocese of San Francisco in 1981. Father Phelan served at St. Emydius Parish, Church of the Epiphany, St. Brendan Parish, St. Raymond Parish, St. Elizabeth Parish, Most Holy Redeemer, St. Mary Star of the Sea Parish, St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Novato, and St. Isabella Parish.

Fr. Phelan also served at St. Anthony’s Dining Room for twelve years and volunteered as a food runner for six years, experiences he considered deeply graced and meaningful. He was a gifted homilist and had a deep understanding of people and their spiritual needs.  His pastoral care was acknowledged by the many tributes he had received over his years of ministry by grateful parishioners.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 11, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Daly City (60 Wellington Ave, Daly City, CA 94014). A light reception will follow in the school hall. Internment will follow after the reception at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery (1500 Mission Road, Colma, CA).
